| Résumé : | In this paper, I draw inspiration from critical perspectives (mainly autonomist marxism) and try to discover a new ways of thinking about the professional discourse. Based on my research, I view professionalization as an ideological attempt to align journalists with the logic of the means of production. Consequently, “becoming-a-professional”, taken to the extreme, is essentially “becoming-a-machine”. This explains why the managers who, in the 20th century, called for a professionalization of journalism, are now calling for the automation of the journalistic production (or the introduction of audience metric algorithms to make editorial decisions). This is perfectly coherent when we consider that professionalization and automation have substantially the same political function: depoliticize journalists, divide manual and intellectual labor and break class consciousness. |
