Abstract: | This article focuses on the analysis of narratives written by elementary school students in one Quebec school. After conducting an interview with one of their grandparents, students were asked to write a narrative about the person’s life. These narratives were analyzed to highlight the traces of students’ historical writing skills. In this article, we present the theoretical framework that guides our research, with attention to the contributions of oral history and the distinctions between historical writing and argumentative writing. We then describe the process of the project and the results, and address the potential benefits of this approach for history learning and motivation. |
